Amazing stuff indeed, full of all the energy you'd expect, taking its time about reaching climaxes and in the process building up bucketloads of tension. Very interesting textures, and an unusual case of Cecil playing someone else's music (at least, for part of the piece). Indeed, he almost gets submerged in the ensemble during the first five minutes or so of the first movement, decorating things at the edges with what sometimes sound like Romantic figurations (or warped versions of said stylisms). For many, it'll be when CT starts improvising alongside Andrew Cyrille that things really come to life. But I like the whole thing.

Two contrasting perspectives on the music (or alongside the music, as in I was painting them while listening to CT rip the hell and stroke the heaven out of the joanna). I'll also just briefly note that I've started doing some watercolours in the last few days: hence the changed format of the images (colour! wateriness!)

We'll see if anything interesting develops out of the paint...I may move on to oils, I may go back to the good old pen and pencil, I may not be bothered or have the minutes to do much at all - time will tell, and with that platitude, I'll sign out.

These ones were done while I was listening to the new album by free jazz drummer Marc Edwards and his band Slipstream Time Travel: loud, heavy, dissonant, high-energy electric improvised music.

You might find it hard to tell that from the pictures though. Although the next one's a bit more intense, even sinister...

I already run a blog, over at http://streamsofexpression.blogspot.com, but it's mainly focussed on music, with asides on literature, film, and so on. This one's more of a vanity project, really - when I feel like it, I'll post scans of some of my pictures (mostly drawn with a biro pen!). Lots of them are inspired by music/ written while listening to music. Lots of them are little more than doodles. But I thought I'd throw them out to the wider world.
